Laboratory research focuses on understanding how chromatin structure contributes to normal development and oncogenic transformation. The lab studies the BAF ATP-dependent chromatin remodeling complex, an essential regulator of chromatin structure that is frequently mutated in human cancer, and seeks to understand the mechanistic basis of its tumor suppressor role.
Position Description:

With continual advances in sequencing technologies, novel trends are being uncovered through the profiling of primary human tumors, illustrating the importance of epigenetic regulators and particularly subunits of the BAF ATP-dependent chromatin remodeling complex (Kadoch, Hargreaves et al. Nature Genetics 2013). We are currently seeking highly motivated postdoctoral fellows to functionally characterize loss-of-function mutations or deletions of BAF subunits using a combination of biochemical and next-generation sequencing methodologies. Our experiments are guided by identification of novel interacting proteins of BAF through proteomic mass spectrometry and genetic interaction mapping that point to new functions for the BAF complex and highlight nodes of therapeutic susceptibility. We hope to mechanistically define the pathways that permit and advance oncogenic transformation as a result of BAF subunit mutation and the therapeutic vulnerabilities that arise from this altered cellular state.


Candidates should have a Ph.D. or M.D. and experience in molecular and cellular biology.


Experience in biochemistry, basic molecular biology techniques (cloning, ChIP etc), RNAi screening, and next-generation sequencing methodologies is preferred.
